Tesla Free Energy: What the Documents Actually Say
A document-first guide to Tesla’s wireless-power patents and why they do not automatically prove modern unlimited free-energy claims.
Short answer
Tesla’s patents and lectures are primary evidence that he proposed systems for transmitting electrical energy through natural media and for wireless signaling. They are not, by themselves, proof of unlimited costless energy for everyone.
The strongest primary documents
The core patent documents are:
- US645576, System of Transmission of Electrical Energy (1900)
- US649621, Apparatus for Transmission of Electrical Energy (1900)
- US787412, Art of Transmitting Electrical Energy Through the Natural Media (1905)
Those patents matter because they are Tesla’s own technical disclosures as issued patent records. They should be read alongside his professional lectures and published articles, not through later summaries alone.
What the patents can support
The patents can support narrow claims such as:
- Tesla patented systems related to wireless transmission of electrical energy.
- Tesla described apparatus and methods for using natural media in electrical-energy transmission.
- Tesla’s wireless-power work belongs in the same evidence family as his high-frequency-current lectures and signaling patents.
What the patents do not prove by themselves
The patents do not automatically prove:
- A working global free-energy utility.
- Costless energy independent of generation infrastructure.
- Official suppression of Wardenclyffe.
- Modern perpetual-motion or over-unity interpretations.
Those stronger claims require additional primary evidence: dated lab records, operational measurements, business records, government orders, court records, or contemporaneous technical reports.
Use the tool
The Tesla Papers Navigator filters wireless-power patents alongside lectures, proceedings, and later government records. The Myth Checker labels “free energy for all” as an overstated interpretation until stronger documents are attached.
